Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 11, 2026
In short: ActShot works on your phone. Your location, recordings and health data stay on your device. We keep your account details, and we receive session files only if you turn on uploads or attach diagnostics to feedback. We don't sell your data or show ads. You can delete your account and its data at any time in the app, at actshot.app/delete-account.html or by email. On that page you can also delete only the data you uploaded.
1. Who we are
ActShot ("we", "us") makes the ActShot app for skiers and snowboarders. It detects resorts, lifts and trails from your phone's GPS and starts and stops your cameras for you. This policy covers the ActShot Android app and the actshot.app website. Contact: actshotapp@gmail.com.
2. What we collect and why
Your account
- Email address, display name and the username you pick. If you sign in with Google, the email and name of your Google account. If you sign in with a phone number, that number.
- A user ID created by Firebase Authentication, and your invitation status (sign-up date, and whether you were approved).
We use these to sign you in, to manage invitations to the app, and to reply when you contact us.
Location
- Precise GPS location, including in the background while a ski session is running, so the app can detect your resort, the lift you are on and the trail you are skiing, start and stop recordings, and give voice announcements.
- Your last known location when you set up resorts, to preselect your country.
Location is processed and stored on your phone. It leaves your phone only through the optional uploads described below.
Optional uploads (all off by default)
- Session uploads ("Improve ActShot" and automatic upload in Settings): the session's GPS track, session statistics, app activity logs, app settings, the name of the connected camera, and fitness files from your watch for that day. They are stored with your user ID and email so we can follow up on problems.
- GPS zone sharing: the trigger zones and points you create (coordinates, names, radius and resort), stored with your user ID, so that popular recording spots can be suggested to other skiers.
- Diagnostics with feedback: when you send feedback and choose to attach diagnostics, the session files you pick plus app logs.
You can turn uploads off at any time in Settings. Feedback itself is sent from your own email app, so we receive whatever you put in the email.
Health and fitness (Health Connect)
If you allow it, ActShot reads exercise sessions, heart rate and calories burned from Health Connect to show them with your ski sessions, and writes your ski sessions to Health Connect. This data stays on your phone. It is never uploaded, never shared, and never used for advertising.
Calls and notifications (optional)
If you turn on caller announcements, ActShot detects incoming calls, looks up the caller's name in your contacts, and, with notification access, reads the caller's name from the call notifications of calling and messaging apps. This happens on your phone only; the app does not store or upload these names or numbers. You can turn notification access off in Android settings at any time.
Microphone, camera and connected devices
- Voice commands are recognized on your phone with an offline speech model. Audio is not stored or uploaded.
- Videos and photos from your phone camera and from connected cameras (such as Insta360 and GoPro, over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth) are saved on your phone or camera. We do not receive them.
- Bluetooth is used to connect cameras and remote buttons. Bluetooth scans are not used to work out your location.
Analytics and app integrity
- Firebase Analytics (Google) collects pseudonymous usage data: an app instance ID, device model, Android and app version, approximate region, and events such as app opens and screens viewed. On Android it may also collect the device's advertising ID. We use it only to understand how the app is used and to fix problems, never for advertising.
- Firebase App Check uses Google Play Integrity to confirm that requests come from a genuine copy of the app.
Resort data and lift status
- Resort maps (trails and lifts) are downloaded from our servers. Our servers receive your sign-in token and IP address with each download.
- The Day Planner can fetch lift status from liftie.info. Only the resort name is sent.
- Trail and lift data is derived from OpenStreetMap and OpenSkiMap. No data about you is sent to them.
3. What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your personal data.
- We don't show ads or share your data for advertising.
- We don't upload your location, recordings, health data, contacts or call information except as described above.
4. Who we share data with
- Google Firebase and Google Cloud, which run our sign-in, database, file storage, server functions, website, analytics and App Check for us.
- Other ActShot users may see recording spots suggested from shared GPS zones, without your name or email.
- Authorities, when the law requires it.
5. Where data is stored and how it is protected
Account data and uploads are stored on Google Cloud servers, which may be outside your country. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest by Google Cloud.
6. How long we keep data
- Account data, uploads and shared GPS zones: until you delete your account, or until you ask us to delete them.
- Server logs: up to 30 days.
- Analytics data: for the retention period set in Google Analytics, at most 14 months. It is not linked to your account.
- Support emails: until your request is handled.
- Emails in our inbox: the automatic notices we get when you sign up or upload a session (with your email address, name, resort and session date), and feedback you emailed us. They are kept and are not deleted when you delete your data or your account.
7. Your choices and rights
- Turn uploads and GPS zone sharing on or off in Settings.
- Allow or revoke location, camera, microphone, contacts, phone, Bluetooth, notification access and Health Connect permissions in Android settings.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct or delete it, at actshotapp@gmail.com. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have further rights, including the right to complain to a data protection authority.
8. Deleting your account
In the app, open Settings → App → Delete account. This deletes your login, profile, username, invitation, uploaded sessions and diagnostics, and shared GPS zones from our servers.
You can also sign in at actshot.app/delete-account.html to delete your account there, or to delete only the data you uploaded and keep your account. Or ask us by email. That page has the details.
Files the app saved on your phone (for example in Documents/ActShot and DCIM/ActShot) stay on your phone, even after you uninstall the app, until you delete them. Entries in Health Connect stay in Health Connect.
9. Children
ActShot is not intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you think a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We will post changes on this page and update the date above. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app.
